The FAA approved the design, so Terrafugia has now released final renderings of The Transition, the company's dorky-but-desirable flying automobile that converts from a car to an airplane -- and back again. Telstar Logistics covered the vehicle's first flight in 2009, and close observers will note some subtle changes to the design.
Our friends over at Jalopnik have the key details:
The Transition's supposed to travel 450 miles at a speed of 115 mph on regular unleaded gas and then, with the wings folded up, travel at 65 mph on the road all for a price of $194,000 and just 20 hours of flying lessons.
The Transition is nowhere near as cute as the Aerocar from the 1940s, but on the plus side, it comes with airbags and a ballistic parachute system for improved peace of mind.
More pics, and snark, over at Jalopnik.
