A Different Way to Ride on the Golden Gate Bridge

There are some San Francisco tastes that taste exceptionally good together: Sourdough bread and white clam chowder, for example.  Or Niman Ranch beef and a fine Napa cabernet sauvignon. And let us not forget the eternal favorite, Rice-A-Roni and Hyde Street cable cars.  To this roster of classic pairings we must now add a new combination: ArtBikes and the Golden Gate Bridge.

As Telstar Logistics has previously documented, San Francisco is home to a thriving ArtBike subculture of mechanical mutants who specialize in creating radical (if functionally dubious) forms of human-powered transportation. According to Wired News, the masterpiece shown here was built by metal fabricator Jay Broemme, and it features custom steel bridge towers and toy cars glued to the roadway. Extra credit for the paint: Unlike some who shall go nameless, Mr. Broemme apparently obtained a quart of the actual International Orange paint used on the Golden Gate Bridge by bribing a bridge worker with a six-pack of beer. Come to think of it... that's a pretty tasty combination as well.

(Thanks, Jim!)
